Ancients League

Despite the fragmentation of the ‘Ancients’ community, following the introduction of both DBMM and FOG, our little backwater remains more or less unaffected, with the vast majority of games played being either DBM or DBR. Some test games of FOG and DBMM have been played but few contributed to the league table.

DBM remains the single most popular game played at the club, with over half the membership taking part in the league, with almost 60 games played (the same as last year), featuring over 70 different armies ranging from Early Libyan to 30YW Swedish.

The final result this year was a close-run thing, with John Davis winning the league, with Andy Leeser a close second. Ralph came third.

I will be compiling the 2010 league table and invite members to submit their results, whatever the game system used. The idea is to encourage the playing of ‘ancient, medieval & renaissance’ games at the club and we can adapt the scoring system to include any rule set used.

FOG uses a different scoring system, so I propose that the following should be used to translate the result to the usual ’10-0’ format:

Decisive Victory: Winner scores 10 points, Loser scores 0
Major Victory: Winner scores 8 points, Loser scores 2 points
Moderate Victory: Winner scores 7 points, Loser scores 3 points
Marginal Victory: Winner scores 6 points, Loser scores 4 points
Draw: Both players score 5 points

The league will be listed in order of points scored (3 for a win, 1 for a draw) for those who have played a minimum of 5 games this season forming the ‘first division’, to encourage both regular and aggressive play. The 'average points for' and number of enemy generals killed (not just demoralized) will act as tie-breakers when points are the same. Please let me know the result of any games – players, armies used, score and any enemy general elements killed (CinC counts double).
